Registration is now open for the 2nd edition of the Online Supercomputing Course at NAU
Registration is now open for the second edition of the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) "Supercomputing: Accelerating the future, together!", an open and free online course that reinforces Portugal's commitment to training and capacity building in high-performance computing (HPC) technologies. Registration is open on the NAU platform.
Following the success of the first edition, which attracted more than 3,700 registrants, the course returns with new modules and updated content, keeping pace with developments in supercomputing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and their application in scientific and business contexts, and offering complete flexibility so that each participant can complete it at their own pace.
Among the main new features of this second edition is a module dedicated to new national supercomputers, focusing on Deucalion and MareNostrum5, the latter developed in collaboration with the NCC in Turkey and the NCC in Spain, as well as other resources from the National Center for Advanced Computing (CNCA). These infrastructures represent a significant advance in national and European capacity in advanced computing.
The new edition also includes a module entirely dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, addressing topics such as Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI applications (text, image, and music), supercomputing infrastructure requirements, and the main challenges associated with these technologies.
The course also includes a module dedicated to businesses, presenting real-life use cases of supercomputing in a business context, highlighting its contribution to innovation, competitiveness, and process optimization. In this module, participants also have access to practical simulations that illustrate how to access national supercomputing infrastructures, providing a concrete understanding of the mechanisms for accessing this technology in Portugal.
The MOOC "Supercomputing: Accelerating the future, together!" is a pioneering initiative, being the first online course in Portuguese dedicated to advanced computing and supercomputing. The initiative provides a unique opportunity to understand the impact of supercomputing on science, industry, and the economy, while promoting access to specialized technical knowledge and contributing to digital empowerment.
The course is an initiative developed under the EuroCC Project, aimed at students, researchers, and professionals from different fields, and is once again open to the general public free of charge.
