2nd edition of Call Advanced Call : Artificial Intelligence in the Cloud

The second edition Call Advanced Call : Artificial Intelligence in the Cloud, for which applications will be accepted from June 1 to July 26, 2023, will provide US$1 million in credits on the Google Cloud platform to research, innovation, or development projects.

This Call within the scope of the collaboration agreement established between FCT and Google, which aims to support research projects in the field of Artificial Intelligence in Portugal. The support translates into the provision of credits for Artificial Intelligence (AI) services on the Google Cloud platform and complements the existing support already provided by FCT through RNCA – National Advanced Computing Network.

As with the first edition, the aim is to support research and development projects that use Google Cloud Platform offerings in the following areas:

– 80% of resources are reserved for areas of Natural Language Processing and Ethics in Artificial Intelligence;

– 20% of resources are reserved for other scientific areas using Google Cloud Platform offerings in artificial intelligence and data analysis algorithms, or more if there are not enough applications to fill the quota referred to in the previous point.

If the resources requested in the areas mentioned above do not exhaust the computational resources available in Call, the remaining portion may be allocated to any other areas.

Applicants must choose the type of access that best suits their computing project. Fixed Access accepts projects worth up to USD 25,000, while Variable Access accepts projects worth up to USD 150,000. Applicants are responsible for justifying their computing resource requirements using the Google Cloud online calculator.

Public or private institutions that carry out R&D activities, companies that carry out R&D activities, and individuals who work in Portugal and wish to develop advanced computing projects in any scientific field are eligible to apply.

On June 22, Google Cloud Day Lisbon will take place in Lisbon, where you can attend keynotes, business talks, and technical sessions led by Google Cloud experts, partners, and industry leaders, who will address various topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data, Security, Sustainability, Productivity, and Collaboration.

On June 15, starting at 12 noon, there will be an online information session for candidates and interested parties to clarify their questions about the types and resources available in Call. Information is available on the FCT page dedicated to Call.
