3rd Session of the Cycle “Archives of Knowledge: Science, History, and Memory”
Registration is now open for the 3rd Session of the Cycle "Archives of Knowledge: Science, History, and Memory," which will take place on June 4, starting at 2:30 p.m., at the premises of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), at Av. D. Carlos I, 126, in Lisbon.
Paula Diogo, member of the FCT Governing Board, and Paula Meireles, coordinator of the Science and Technology Archive, will open this session, which will feature guest speaker Maria de Fátima Nunes, from the Institute of Contemporary History at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (EU hub) and IN2PAST – University of Évora. Her presentation will focus on the theme "From scientific journalism to materialities. Itineraries and intersections of sources."
The Science and Technology Archive (ACT) is unique in the history of scientific activity in Portugal, with the function of preserving and managing the documentary memory of national scientific production, translated into thousands of files supporting Studentships, institutions, and research projects. Open to the public since December 16, 2011, it has a significant documentary collection that includes, in addition to the FCT's own archive from 1997 onwards, the collection of the National Board for Scientific and Technological Research (JNICT) from 1967 to 1997, and other public and private bodies, mainly in the area of science policy and funding in Portugal.
The cycle "Archives of Knowledge: Science, History, and Memory," organized by FCT, aims to disseminate the documentary collection of its Science and Technology Archive, as well as others relevant to the history and memory of Science and Technology in Portugal, through the promotion of five short sessions held in an informal and collaborative environment.
