3rd Call for Proposals 2026 of the European Partnership for Agroecology

The European co-financed partnershipAgroecology, which includes the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) as a national funding entity, is launching the3rd Joint Call for the funding of transnational research and innovation (R&I) projects, under the theme "Fostering plant and animal genetic diversity and empowering farmers to accelerate the agroecological transition." Pre-proposals must be submitted by 1:00 p.m. (Mainland Portugal time) on February 18, 2026.

This Call 27 European and international funding agencies and aims to finance R&I projects that address two fundamental pillars of the agroecological transition: the genetic dimension and the social dimension.

Proposals submitted under this Call address at least one of the following topics:

  1. Enhancing the genetic diversity and variability of crops and livestock for the agroecological transition
  2. Fortalecer la participación y el empoderamiento de los agricultores en la transición hacia la agroecología

Co-funded under Horizon Europe, the Agroecology – Accelerating Farming Systems Transition through Agroecology Living Labs and Research Infrastructures – aims to support the transformation of European agriculture according to the new paradigm of agroecology, implementing more resilient, productive, and prosperous agricultural systems that are sensitive to the location, climate, environment, ecosystems, biodiversity, and people, with targets to be achieved by 2050. In addition to FCT, Portugal is represented in this partnership by the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV).
