5th edition of the REN Scientific Merit Medals – Ciência LP – FCT
Leila Jossias, Gafar Muganharia, and Alberto Sitoe won the 5th edition of the REN – Ciência LP – FCT Scientific Merit Medals. These medals are the result of a partnership between Rede Energética Nacional (REN), the LP Science Center, and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and aim to recognize and value the research work carried out by women up to 35 years of age and students and researchers (M/F) from Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) in the areas of energy transition.
The 1st Prize in the "Women Researchers" category was awarded to Leila Jossias, for her work "Methanol synthesis through direct oxidation of methane: simulation and assessment of energy feasibility." In the "Students and Researchers" category, Gafar Muganharia was the winner with "Simulation of Cryogenic Removal of H2S and CO2 from Synthesis Gas Using Conventional and Thermally Integrated Distillation Columns." Alberto Filimão Sitoe took second place with his “Study of Ocean Renewable Energy in the Coastal Zone of Mozambique.”
The winners in each category received a prize of €5,000, and the runners-up received a prize of €2,500.

The award ceremony for these medals took place on December 4 at the Ritz Hotel in Lisbon.
