Applications are now open for the 5th edition of the Mário Ruivo – Ocean Generations Award, an initiative dedicated to young people aged between 14 and 21 that rewards the production of films that promote greater awareness among younger generations of the role of the ocean in its many dimensions.

This year's edition, dedicated to the theme "Ocean: a heritage that unites generations," aims to draw attention to the deep connection between the ocean and the preservation and maximization of human rights.

The films submitted by young filmmakers will be evaluated in four categories—Message, Creativity, Scientific Culture, and Future—with a prize of €2,000 awarded to each of these categories. Applications are open until September 30, 2025.

The FCT, together with the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the Mission Structure for the Extension of the Continental Shelf (EMEPC), the Portuguese Film Archive – Cinema Museum, the Directorate-General for Education (DGE), and the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), are part of the Award Organizing Committee, which is coordinated by the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy (DGPM).
