The Partnership between the African Union and the European Union on Sustainable Energy (LEAP-SE) has launched the first joint transnational Call for research and innovation (R&I) projects. Pre-proposals must be submitted by March 27, 2025, at 15:00 (mainland Portugal time).

LEAP-SE, co-financed under Horizon Europe, aims to develop a long-term partnership between Europe and Africa in sustainable energy R&I. As part of the "Climate Change and Sustainable Energy" (CCSE) partnership of the AU-EU High Level Political Dialogue (HLPD) on Science, Technology and Innovation, it brings together 22 European and African partners, building on the previous LEAP-RE partnership, in which FCT participates.

The 1st LEAP-SE 2025 Call focuses on seven multi-annual roadmaps: Assessment of renewable energy sources (RES) and integration of RES into sustainable energy scenarios; End-of-life and second life cycle management and environmental impact of RES components; Smart autonomous systems (SAS); Smart grids (different scales) for off-grid applications; Processes and appliances for productive uses (PRODUSE); Innovative solutions for priority domestic uses (clean cooking and cold chain); and Production and use of green hydrogen.

Three online sessions have been organized in French, English and Portuguese to present the Call and answer questions from applicants. The presentation in Portuguese is available on the FCT page dedicated to the Call

You can find more information about this Call on the LEAP-SE COFUND - LEAP-RE website. For more information on applications from national entities, see the page dedicated to the Call the FCT website.
