Calls for Proposals for Calls 2026 Now Open
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) has announced the opening of its 2026 Calls for proposals, aimed at funding transnational research and innovation projects.
The 2026 edition is divided into two sections, with deadlines at 12:00 p.m. (Mainland Portugal time):
- Section 1, which is directly funded by the European Union and fully managed by the PRIMA Foundation, is accepting applications for the first phase until May 15. A second application phase will close on October 7.
- Section 2 is funded by national agencies under a shared management arrangement between PRIMA and each participating country. The deadline for submitting applications for this first phase is also May 15, while the second phase will run until September 29.
In Portugal, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) represents the country in this partnership and, as a funding agency and under Call 2 Call , is providing a budget of 1.2 million euros to support national institutions. Proposals will be accepted in the fields of water management, agricultural systems, and the agri-food chain, incorporating the water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus approach.
Another highlight of this year’s edition is the PRIMA Young Innovators Award 2026 – PRIMA, an award that recognizes young innovators from the Southern Mediterranean countries. The initiative aims to highlight creativity, leadership, and contributions toward a more sustainable future in the region.
On March 26, starting at 9:00 a.m., an online information session will be held – PRIMA Infoday—dedicated to presenting the Calls for proposals, participation rules, and evaluation criteria. Registration is now open, and you can sign up here.
Since 2018, the PRIMA Foundation has issued annual Calls encourage scientific and technological cooperation among Mediterranean countries, with the aim of strengthening stability, sustainability, and prosperity in this strategic region.
