The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is organizing three training courses from the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO), to be held in person, as part of the IAEA technical cooperation project RER6047 – "Strengthening and expanding radiotherapy practices for adult and pediatric cancer patients."

  • The course IMRT and VMAT: Best Practices and New Trends (EVT2600141) will take place in Zagreb, Croatia, from March 1 to 4, and the deadline for submitting applications is January 23. The IAEA will support the participation of multidisciplinary teams (radiation oncologists, physicians, and radiation therapists) involved in the implementation and clinical use of IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy) /VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy) and other advanced techniques in their departments. Priority will be given to complete RT (Radiotherapy) teams (RO (Radiation Oncologist), MP (Medical Physicist), RTT (Radiation Therapist / Radiation Therapy Technologist)) and candidates with at least two years of clinical experience.
  • The Comprehensive and Practical Brachytherapy course (EVT2600143) will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from March 22 to 24, and the deadline for applications is January 23. The IAEA will support the participation of radiation oncologists and physicians practicing brachytherapy for prostate and gynecological cancers. Priority will be given to junior professionals.
  • The Comprehensive Quality Management in Radiotherapy – Risk Management and Patient Safety course (EVT2600144) will be held in Erlangen, Germany, from March 30 to April 2, and the deadline for submitting applications is January 30. The IAEA will support the participation of a team of three radiotherapy professionals (RO, MP, RTT) from the same institution. Priority will be given to countries/departments that are in the process of establishing a comprehensive QMS (Quality Management System) in RT. Preference will be given to those with at least three years of prior clinical experience.

Applications for all courses must be submitted via the AIEA's InTouch+ platform. For further information, please visit ESTRO – School.

Portugal is a founding member of the IAEA, established in 1957. National cooperation with this Agency is largely carried out through the Technical Cooperation Program (TCP), under the Country Program Frameworks signed between the IAEA and the Government of Portugal. The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), as part of its participation in the TCP, promotes training opportunities and other events within the Portuguese scientific community.
