Note of condolence – António Moreira
The Governing Board of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of António Moreira, former Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UMBC – University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
He graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of Porto in 1973, completed his master's and doctorate in Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania (1975-1977), and completed his post-doctorate in Biochemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 1978. Early in his career, Professor António Moreira played a key role in the development of the School of Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Porto, not only as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board, but also in promoting student and staff exchanges between this institution and the University of Maryland. He was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Public Instruction by His Excellency the President of the Republic and had been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since 2015.
