Signing of the transfer agreement for the future FCT facilities

News Campus Science XXI

The signing of the transfer agreement for the future premises of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) will take place on March 22, at 3:00 p.m., in the LNEC Auditorium, in Lisbon (Avenida do Brasil). The ceremony will be presided over by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato. See the event program here.

With the signing of this document by FCT and ESTAMO, the first step will be taken towards the creation of Campus Ciência XXI, a measure to support the scientific community included in the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan (Investment C05 – i08 – More Digital Science) with funding of €3.7 million.

The main objective of this investment is to promote digital transition in the areas of science and technology. The creation of a science and technology campus, open to society and oriented towards the future, will initially involve the renovation and adaptation of two buildings on Avenida do Brasil in Lisbon, transferring the FCT services currently located on Avenida D. Carlos I to this location, where the FCT's digital services (through its FCCN Unit) are already operating.

The intervention, which will now begin, will result in the creation of modern, functional spaces that can be adapted to the current needs of the FCT and the scientific and technological community, contributing to a more efficient and modern public administration, greater efficiency in the provision of public services in the area of science, better working conditions for the FCT, and a reduction in public budget costs. This is seen as the first step in a larger project, promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, to create a vast and interconnected Science Campus, which will incorporate other entities of the National Science and Technology System (SNCT) in the future, according to an organic and harmonious strategy.

This and other measures for science, provided for in the reprogramming of the PRR with an investment of €93 million and developed by the XXIII Constitutional Government, can be consulted at:
