Studentships for research and doctoral studies with support from FCT

Fulbright Portugal is accepting applications for Studentships for Research and Studentships for Doctorates until January 31, 2023. Calls are supported by the FCT.

The Studentships for Research program is intended for doctoral fellows directly funded by FCT who have planned, as part of their training plan, to conduct a period of research at a US university or research center, and covers all areas of study. To apply, applicants must have a good knowledge of English, proof of agreement with the project by the host institution in the United States of America, and proof of agreement with their doctoral supervisor. This Studentship a fixed duration of 4 to 9 months. Selected candidates receive support from both the FCT and Fulbright, which provides them with supplementary health and accident insurance during the Studentship period, issuance of the necessary documents for the J-1 visa, among other benefits.

The Studentships Doctoral Studentships Program is intended for students who will attend the first year of a doctoral program on a full-time, in-person basis at an accredited university in the United States, beginning in the 2023/2024 academic year. Preference will be given to students whose academic career has been developed at a Portuguese higher education institution. The application requires two letters ofreference; a copy of the transcripts for each academic degree obtained and their translation into English; a diploma supplement, percentile, or ranking of the degree (when possible) and its translation into English; a copy of Studentship Regulations Studentship and initialed by the applicant; and the Diversity Essay written by the applicant. Applicants must also submit the following documents at the time of application or by April 15, 2023: proof of admission to the university they intend to attend; proof of financial aid awarded by the university they intend to attend; proof of financial capacity (personal funds and/or other funds) to cover the total cost of the first year of study, in an amount exceeding the Studentship and the amount of financial aid awarded by the university they intend to attend.
