The European network HERA– Humanities in the European Research Area announces the invitation for a call for proposals of joint transnational projects on the theme of Crisis - Perspectives from the Humanities

The CHANSE Programme (Collaboration of Humanities and Social Sciences in Europe) and the HERA network (Humanities in the European Research Area) announce an invitation for the presentation of proposals for joint transnational projects on the theme Crisis - Perspectives from the Humanities.
Proposals may involve research projects from a variety of perspectives aligned with one or more of the following sub-themes:
- Different understandings of crises;
- Crises and Human Reaction;
- The Representation of Crises.
The national funding agencies involved in the Joint Research Programme Crisis from HERA, including FCT, aim to create opportunities for transnational, collaborative, humanities-oriented research, which will result in new academic perspectives, relevant to the major social, cultural and political challenges facing Europe and the world.
The aim of the invitation to the presentation of proposals for projects Crisis is also to promote diversity in research. When creating research consortia, applicants are strongly encouraged to take into account the following aspects:
- Gender equality;
- Age balance;
- Geographical diversity - inclusion of the Widening countries participating in the call;
- Knowledge exchange and impact.
Composition of the research teams: minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 principal investigators.
Duration of projects: 24-36 months.
Participating countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

The following are individual or co-promotion beneficiaries:
a) Non-entrepreneurial entities of the R&I system, namely:
- Higher education institutions, their institutes and R&D units;
- State or international laboratories with head office in Portugal;
- Non-profit private institutions whose main object is R&D activity;
- Other non-profit public and private institutions developing or participating in scientific research activities.
b) Companies of any type and under any legal form.

2- Read the national/regional rules of all the countries participating in your consortium (including the Portuguese ones) available in the "National Annexes". Non eligible partners may lead to the rejection of the whole consortium.

4- Within 10 working days after the deadline for submission of proposals, the Portuguese teams (participants and/or coordinators) should send to the National Contact Point of the Call a Declaration of Commitment, duly signed by the Principal Investigator and the legal representative of the Proposing Institution and stamped. FCT may request the original of this document later on.

Evaluation process:
A two-stage evaluation process will be organised.
Stage One:
- Eligibility check of the pre-proposals carried out by the Secretariat in accordance with the "eligibility criteria" present in the call documents;
- Eligibility check of pre-proposals carried out by the National Contact Points participating in the call, according to the national requirements;
- Evaluation of eligible pre-proposals carried out by an independent Evaluation Panel (according to the "evaluation criteria" present in the call documents) against the following criteria:
1. Relevance to the "Crises" theme and evidence of a humanities-oriented approach
2. Potential for research excellence
3. Impact beyond academia
4. Quality of implementation and management
The Steering Group will decide which pre-proposals will be invited to submit full proposals (second stage).
Second stage:
- Eligibility check of full proposals carried out by the Secretariat, according to the "eligibility criteria" present in the tender documents;
- Eligibility check of full proposals carried out by the National Contact Points participating in the call, according to the national requirements;
- Evaluation of eligible full proposals carried out by an independent Evaluation Panel (according to the "evaluation criteria" present in the call documents) as well as by external reviewers against the following criteria:
1. research excellence
2. Impact
3. Quality and efficiency of implementation
The Call Steering Group will decide with the collaboration of the Secretariat on which projects to recommend for funding.

Funding:
Duration of the projects: 24-36 meses.
Funding per project: up to a maximum amount of 1,500,000 € (for all partners).
FCT financial commitment for the call: 150,000 €.
Maximum funding for a consortium with portuguese participation: 75,000 euros.
Maximum funding for a consortium with portuguese coordination: 150,000.
Note: If a consortium includes more than one Portuguese institution, the funding shall be shared among the participating institutions. The financing of Portuguese institutions must comply with the Regulation of projects financed exclusively by national funds. The dedication (FTE) in transnational projects is not considered for the 100% (FTE) dedication to national projects.
