Public Consultation on the European Framework for Science Diplomacy
The Public Consultation on the European Framework for Science Diplomacy, which aims to gather relevant information to define the scope and objectives of a future European framework in this field, runs until November 3. This consultation, which also aims to improve coordination and synergies in science diplomacy efforts in Europe, covers stakeholders in science diplomacy inside and outside the European Union (EU), in particular countries associated with the Horizon Europe program.
The European Framework for Science Diplomacy is an initiative that aims to strengthen Europe's competitive position as a global player in the field of science and technology. It also aims to defend the EU's strategic interests and technological sovereignty, promote its principles and values, strengthen Europe's commitment to the sustainable management of the global commons and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In 2021, the Conclusions on the Global Approach to Research and Innovation highlighted the importance of developing a European Science Diplomacy Agenda.
In a context of rapid geopolitical and scientific-technological change, it is essential that the EU adopts measures to develop a coherent and strategic framework for science diplomacy. This is a key instrument for the partnerships to be established by the EU, as well as for reducing vulnerabilities and promoting values and principles that contribute to global public benefit.
