Portugal's biggest Science and Innovation event is back. On July 9, 10, and 11, the NOVA SBE Campus in Carcavelos will host the Science 2025 Meeting, under the theme "Science, Innovation, and Society." There will be three days of promotion and debate on the scientific, social, cultural, and economic impact of research in Portugal, with 60 scientific sessions led by more than 200 speakers.

“In an increasingly complex world, where global challenges require transformative solutions, the theme ‘Science, Innovation, and Society’ invites a comprehensive reflection on the structuring role of science in the development of societies.” It is with this message that the Commissioners of Science 2025, Pedro Pita Barros, professor at NOVA SBE, and Vera Aldeias, coordinating researcher at the University of Algarve, welcome researchers, guests, and the general public.

The Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, will attend the closing session on the 11th, and the Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, Helena Canhão, will attend the opening session on the 9th. The Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation will also participate in a session on partnerships with US universities on the first day of the meeting.

The plenary sessions of Science 2025 will focus on valuing knowledge, covering topics ranging from biodiversity conservation in the context of sustainable development to artificial intelligence and biotechnology. The future of competitiveness and European public policies for research and innovation are also among the topics to be discussed, with the participation of the European Commission's Director-General for Research and Innovation, Marc Lemaître.

The decade of digitization, science communication and cyberjournalism, space innovation at the service of society, strategies and tools for Open Data practices in Portugal, and Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education will be some of the topics of the parallel sessions of the Science 2025 Meeting. These sessions are promoted by structures, organizations, consortia, partnerships, institutions, and other partners that make up the National Science and Technology System (SNCT).

The organization is once again challenging high school students to participate in the event. All sessions will be opened by students who will present the projects they have developed in three minutes.

The Science 2025 Meeting will include a Science and Technology Exhibition, a space dedicated to institutions in the field to showcase and raise awareness of the work they have been developing.

This event is organized by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and Ciência Viva – National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, in collaboration with NOVA University Lisbon and NOVA SBE, and with institutional support from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation.
