The 2027 CaixaResearch Health Research Competition Is Now Open

Applications are now being accepted through November 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. CET, for the 2027 edition of the CaixaResearch Health Research Competition, sponsored by the “la Caixa” Foundation.

This call for proposals is intended to support projects of scientific excellence with the potential to impact society, in the fields of basic, clinical, or translational research. The initiative is part of a program by the “la Caixa” Foundation, with which the FCT has partnered, committing to match the investment allocated by the “la Caixa” Foundation to the selected research projects in Portugal.

Projects must fall within one of the following thematic areas: neuroscience; oncology; cardiovascular diseases and related metabolic diseases; infectious diseases; or enabling technologies applied to the four areas mentioned above.

With a maximum duration of three years, projects may be submitted in two categories: individual projects, submitted by a single research organization, with funding of up to 500,000 euros; and consortium projects, involving between two and five research organizations, with funding of up to 1 million euros.

To assist with the preparation of applications, the “la Caixa” Foundation has scheduled an online information session—in English, with mandatory registration—set for October 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. CET.

Since 2018, the CaixaResearch Health Research “ Calls ” have supported 92 projects involving Portuguese institutions. Of these, 81 are led by national organizations, while 11 include Portuguese participation but are coordinated by Spanish institutions. These projects represent a total investment of approximately 66.3 million euros, of which approximately 20.8 million were provided by the FCT and 45.4 million by the “la Caixa” Foundation.
