Event co-organized by FCT on Semiconductors sparks reflection on national and international opportunities and challenges
The event"Semiconductors: Opportunities and Challenges"took place on March 17 at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga and brought together industry leaders, experts, and researchers to reflect on the opportunities and challenges associated with semiconductors at the national and international levels.
The Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation (MECI), Fernando Alexandre, closed the event, which was also attended by the Secretary of State for Science, Ana Paiva, and the Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira. Madalena Alves, president of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), participated in the event as moderator of the panel "The Portuguese Strategy for Semiconductors."
The program included several panels made up of participants from various countries, namely Brazil, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Commission, including partners from Carnegie Mellon University and UT Austin, with whom Portugal has maintained partnerships for several years.
In the presentation of the Portuguese strategy for semiconductors, emphasis was placed on projects already implemented, both in pilot lines and at the Competence Center (POEMS).
This event, which highlighted Portugal's role in European semiconductor innovation, was jointly organized by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), the National Innovation Agency (ANI), the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-Norte), and was supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation and the Ministry of Economy.
