FCT has updated the amount of the Studentships 2026

The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has updated the amounts for all Studentships covered by the Studentships Regulations. The update takes effect as of January 1, 2026.

The update has already begun to be applied to recipients of Studentships contracted directly with the FCT, and also applies to recipients of the 2025 Doctoral Studentships Competition, whose Studentships contracted with the host institutions indicated in their applications.

Over the next two months, all scholarship recipients will receive their Studentship payments Studentship the updated amounts and the corresponding retroactive payments, effective as of January.

The annual adjustment of the monthly maintenance allowance for all Studentships determined by the FCT Board of Directors, taking into account changes in the national minimum wage each year. In 2026, the national minimum wage increased by 50 euros, and this was also the amount by which all monthly maintenance grants were increased, as determined by the Governing Board. This increase also applies to the amount of monthly maintenance grants for existing types Studentships , as provided for in previous regulations.
