FCT increases PhD Studentships for PALOP countries + East Timor by 30%

Call PhD Studentships for PALOP + EAST TIMOR

The FCT has completed the evaluation process for applications received under the Call Studentships for Doctorates for PALOP + Timor-Leste, and the final results have now been announced.

A total of 390 applications were submitted, of which 319 (around 82%) met the eligibility requirements. Given the very high number of applications, the decision was taken to increase the number of Studentships be awarded under this Call, from 30 to 39 PhD Studentships . This additional number was allocated to Angola, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, countries that accounted for around 88% of the total applications. Of the applications proposed for funding, 25 are from male candidates and 14 from female candidates.

This Call research in the candidates' country of origin, combining attendance of doctoral programs at Portuguese higher education institutions with research practices outside Portugal. This type of work plan, together with an increase in the budget available for travel to the country of origin and the requirement for candidates to prove residence in their country of origin, contributes to consolidating the knowledge developed in doctoral research in the candidates' countries, thereby enhancing their qualifications.

The selection of candidates took into account the merit of the candidate, the merit of the work plan, and the merit of the hosting conditions. The evaluation process for this edition of Call the participation of 37 evaluators, distributed across three evaluation panels, which analyzed, classified, and ranked the applications in each panel.

The three panels had the following distribution of applications analyzed: Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts – 161; Natural Sciences and Engineering – 110; Health and Life Sciences – 48.
