FCT has released the provisional results of Call for research projects "April 25 and Portuguese democracy"

Today, April 16, 2024, the provisional results of the Call for research projects "April 25 and Portuguese democracy", promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in collaboration with the Commission for the Commemoration of 50 years of April 25, were released.

A total of 78 applications were received and analyzed, and a total of 20 exploratory R&D projects directly related to the conquest and construction of democracy in the context of the Revolution of April 25, 1974 were recommended for funding. The overall investment amount is €496,578.38, fully financed by national funds through the FCT budget. Each project received average funding of around €25,000 with a maximum duration of 18 months.

The projects recommended for funding fall into various lines of research, such as:

  • civic and political participation;
  • economic, political and social dynamics;
  • decolonization and international dynamics;
  • oral history and memorial records;
  • archival processing, digitization and study of documentary collections relating to April 25;
  • creation and availability of educational resources to promote knowledge and memory of April 25, particularly in citizenship education.

Following the publication of the provisional results, the bidders can now present their case at a prior hearing of interested parties, until May 2, 2024. The final results of Call are expected to be released in May.

Through this Call and other planned actions, the FCT is joining in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25, helping to mark a moment of great importance in the history of our country.
