The final results for the Call "O 25 de Abril e a democracia portuguesa" have been communicated on June 25th, 2024.
FCT, together with the Mission Structure for the Celebrations of the 50º Anniversary of the April 25th Revolution of 1974, launches the Call for R&D projects entitled “O 25 de Abril e a democracia portuguesa”.

By Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 70/2021, dated June 4th, the government has stablished the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the April 25th Revolution, a central milestone in contemporary Portugal, bringing an end to the dictatorship, ending the imperial era, and creating conditions for democratization and modernization of the country.
With reference to the 50th anniversary of the April 25th Revolution – recognizing and celebrating the achievement and construction of democracy while also looking towards the future – the aim is to promote scientific research developing new knowledge, from a multi and interdisciplinary perspective, in several fields, including history, political science, law, sociology, economics, education sciences, anthropology, literature, and the arts.
Within the scope of the protocol signed between FCT and the Mission Structure for the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the April 25 Revolution of 1974, the present Call is launched aiming at promoting the social sciences and humanities, strengthening their presence on the national scientific agenda in the following research lines:
- civic and political participation
- economic, political and social dynamics
- written, visual and musical narratives
- decolonization and international dynamics
- oral history and memorial records
- memory of the Revolution and democratization
- archival processing, digitalization and study of documentary collections related to the April 25th and to the construction of the Portuguese democracy
- creation and provision of educational resources promoting knowledge and memory about April 25th, namely in citizenship education

The beneficiary entities can only apply individually and must be a legal entity belonging to the non-business entities of the R&I System, namely:
- higher education institutions, their institutes and R&D units;
- state or international laboratories with a head office in Portugal;
- non-profit private institutions whose main object is R&D activity;
- other non-profit public and private institutions developing or participating in scientific research activities.

All proposals, written in English, are submitted online via myFCT web platform, from 16 November until 19 December 2023 5:00 PM, Lisbon time.
All members of the research team should have their CV, written in english, filled in at CIÊNCIAVITAE platform.
The Declaration of Commitment of the Principal Institution will be available at myFCT platform for agreement by the responsible of the Principal Institution or by someone delegated by he/she, after the deadline for submission of applications and until 5:00 PM, Lisbon time, of January 9, 2024.

The evaluation of the proposals will be made by an evaluation panel of experts affiliated with national or foreign institutions, independent and of recognized merit.
The selection and ranking of the proposals are based on the Merit of the Project (MP) that sets on the following evaluation criteria:
A. Scientific merit and innovative nature of the project, and its alignment with the research lines of the call - (40%);
B. Scientific merit of the PI and the research team - (35%);
C. Feasibility of the workplan and the expected indicators, as well as the budget adequacy - (25%).
The Merit of the Project is given by:
MP = 0.40 A + 0.35 B + 0.25 C

For this call 500.000,00 euros of national state budget are available to fund research projects.
The maximum funding for project is 25.000,00 euros.

The call is ruled by the present Public Annoucement for the Call, the Regulation for FCT Projects funded by national funds aproved by Regulation n.º 999/2016 from 16th October, and by the remaining applicable legislation.
