The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has published the list of provisional results of the third evaluation phase of the FCT Mobility program. Fifty-one applications out of a total of 55 eligible applications were proposed for funding, corresponding to approximately €270,000 in funding to support the international mobility of researchers.

This third evaluation phase considered applications submitted between March 11 and May 10, 2025. The program has received a total of 254 applications, of which 197 were approved (approval rate of 78%). The total funding allocated is €1,234,651.50.

Of the 197 researchers participating in international mobility under this program, 63 are from countries outside Europe (Brazil, Mexico, Australia, China, and the US), but also from European countries (Italy, Spain, the UK, France, and Ireland). In the outgoing modality, there are 134 Portuguese researchers in transit, mainly to European Union countries (Ireland, Italy, Iceland, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Croatia, and Romania), and less than a third to countries outside Europe (USA, China, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, Vietnam, Mozambique, and Angola).

The FCT Mobility program funds medium- and long-term stays for Portuguese PhD researchers at foreign institutions and for foreign PhD researchers at Portuguese institutions, with a view to carrying out research and/or fieldwork.

The program, which has a budget of €5 million from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) (Measure RE-C06-i06 – Science Plus Training), supports two types of mobility:

  • FCT Mobility outgoing, which supports the stay of national researchers at foreign institutions for between 2 and 11 consecutive months;
  • FCT Mobility incoming, aimed at welcoming researchers affiliated with foreign institutions to Portugal to carry out joint scientific activities. The mobility period should last between 1 and 3 consecutive months.

The program is open on a permanent basis and applications may be submitted until December 31, 2025, for mobility starting until March 31, 2026.
