FCT Mobility - Provisional results of the first evaluation phase released

The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has published on its website the provisional results of the first evaluation of the FCT Mobility program, which included applications submitted between November 7, 2024 and January 10, 2025.
A total of 83 applications out of 88 eligible proposals were put forward for funding, corresponding to €569,805.50 in support for the international mobility of researchers. Of the 83 researchers in international mobility under this program, 22 are foreign researchers (FCT Mobility incoming) and are mostly from countries outside Europe (such as Brazil, USA, Argentina, Iran and Morocco), but also from European countries (such as Spain, Sweden and Italy); there are 61 Portuguese researchers in transit (FCT Mobility outgoing), mostly to European Union countries (Sweden, Latvia, Ireland, Poland, France and Germany), and around a third to countries outside Europe (Australia, Japan, USA, China, Brazil, Chile, Singapore and East Timor).
The FCT Mobility Program funds medium and long-term stays for national doctoral researchers in foreign institutions and foreign doctoral researchers in national institutions, with a view to carrying out research activities and/or fieldwork.
The program, which has an allocation of five million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), supports two modalities:
- FCT Mobility outgoing, which supports the stay of national researchers in foreign institutions for between 2 and 11 consecutive months;
- FCT Mobility incoming, designed to welcome researchers affiliated with foreign institutions to Portugal for 1 to 3 consecutive months.
In the case of fathers and mothers of children up to 12 years old, the total period can be served non-consecutively, making it easier to balance work and family life.
The program is permanently open. Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2025, for mobilities starting until March 31, 2026. During this period, at least 185 mobilities are expected to be supported. The support granted includes an amount for travel and a monthly amount for accommodation, which varies according to the country of destination.
This program is an important contribution to promoting and strengthening the internationalization of the national scientific and technological system, which increasingly depends on its international attractiveness and its active participation in international collaborative networks.
