FCT Mobility – Announcement of provisional results of the second evaluation stage
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has published on its website the list of provisional results of the second stage of evaluation of the FCT Mobility program, referring to applications submitted between January 11 and March 10, 2025.
Seventy-one applications out of 75 eligible proposals were submitted for funding, corresponding to €486,654.50 in support for the international mobility of researchers. Of the 71 researchers participating in international mobility under this program, 18 are from countries outside Europe (Brazil, Canada, the US, and Lebanon), while the rest are from European countries (Italy, Spain, the UK, Romania, France, and Ireland). In the outgoing modality, there are 53 Portuguese researchers in transit, mainly to European Union countries (Ireland, Italy, Iceland, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Croatia, and Romania), and less than a third to countries outside Europe (the US, China, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, and Angola).
Since its inception, this program has received 199 applications, of which 152 have been approved (approval rate of 76.38%), with total funding of €1,032,610.50.
The FCT Mobility Program funds medium- and long-term stays for Portuguese PhD researchers at foreign institutions and for foreign PhD researchers at Portuguese institutions, with a view to carrying out research and/or fieldwork.
The Program, which has a budget of five million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) (Measure RE-C06-i06 – Science Plus Training), supports two modalities:
- FCT Mobility outgoing, which supports the stay of national researchers at foreign institutions for between 2 and 11 consecutive months;
- FCT Mobility incoming, aimed at hosting researchers affiliated with foreign institutions in Portugal for between 1 and 3 consecutive months.
In the case of parents of children up to 12 years of age, the total period may be taken on a non-consecutive basis, facilitating the balance between professional and family life.
The program is open on a permanent basis. Applications may be submitted until December 31, 2025, for mobility starting until March 31, 2026. During this period, it is expected that at least 185 mobility projects will be supported. The support granted includes an amount for travel and a monthly amount for accommodation, which varies according to the destination country.
This program is an important contribution to promoting and strengthening the internationalization of the national scientific and technological system, which increasingly depends on its international attractiveness and active participation in international collaborative networks.
