FCT promotes sessions on the Contribution of Science to Sustainable Development
FCT will hold three sessions on the theme "Science's contribution to Sustainable Development - people | prosperity | planet" on December 12, 13 and 14 at the D. Pedro IV Auditorium in Lisbon. The initiative will feature the participation of researchers whose work plans are closely related to various relevant issues in the context of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Admission is free and requires prior registration. See the program.
The United Nations 2030 Agenda is an action plan with the aim of eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable development, involving and holding all states and other stakeholders accountable for its implementation. It is a universal agenda, based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, which presupposes the integration of these SDGs into the policies, processes and actions developed at national, regional and global levels.
At the European regional level, the European Union (EU) has been establishing a new approach to ensuring growth and sustainability in its triple dimension - economic, social and environmental - with a view to fully integrating the SDGs into the European political framework, identifying the main sustainability concerns and the efforts needed to achieve the 17 SDGs.
To this end, these sessions on the "Contribution of Science to Sustainable Development", promoted by the FCT, will seek to bring together researchers with projects that address relevant issues in the context of the 17 SDGs, with the aim of enhancing the transfer of knowledge to society and the creation of new partnerships and consortia with a view to developing the SDGs themselves. This meeting also aims to establish synergies between researchers from institutions in different parts of the country, boosting innovative and multidisciplinary approaches that would not otherwise be possible.
These sessions are funded by the PO Lisboa program.
