FCT promotes sessions on the Contribution of Science to Sustainable Development
The FCT will hold three sessions on the theme "Contribution of Science to Sustainable Development – people | prosperity | planet" on December 12, 13, and 14 at the D. Pedro IV Auditorium in Lisbon. The initiative will feature researchers whose work plans are closely related to various issues relevant to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Admission is free and requires prior registration. See the program.
The United Nations 2030 Agenda is an action plan aimed at eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable development, involving and holding all States and other stakeholders accountable for its implementation. It is a universal agenda, based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, which requires the integration of these SDGs into policies, processes, and actions developed at the national, regional, and global levels.
At the European regional level, the European Union (EU) has been establishing a new approach to ensure growth and sustainability in its three dimensions—economic, social, and environmental—aiming at the full integration of the SDGs into the European policy framework, identifying key sustainability concerns and the efforts needed to achieve the 17 SDGs.
In this sense, these sessions on the "Contribution of Science to Sustainable Development," promoted by FCT, will seek to bring together researchers with projects that address issues relevant to the 17 SDGs, with the aim of enhancing the transfer of knowledge to society and creating new partnerships and consortia with a view to developing the SDGs themselves. This meeting also aims to establish synergies between researchers distributed across institutions in different parts of the country, promoting innovative and multidisciplinary approaches that would not otherwise be possible.
These sessions are funded by the PO Lisboa program.
