Foundation for Science and Technology supports “90 Seconds of Science”

Just 90 minutes of science

The FCT will begin supporting "90 Seconds of Science," which is broadcast daily on Antena 1, starting on November 1, 2023.

The program, which has already broadcast more than 1,640 episodes and was launched in 2016, aims to present projects by Portuguese researchers in all areas of knowledge and from all parts of the country.

As a national public agency supporting research in science, technology, and innovation, one of FCT's missions is to encourage the dissemination of scientific knowledge to society.

Under the terms of the agreement, the support will last for one year. The producers of “90 Segundos de Ciência” will have “full editorial responsibility for choosing interviewees and topics,” as well as preparing the episodes for broadcast on Antena 1.

The program is broadcast every weekday at 10:58 a.m. and 3:58 p.m., and is then available on its own website— 90segundosdeciencia.pt —and also on the public radio website, where it was the 16th most listened to podcast in 2022. The episodes are also posted daily on the program's Facebook and X social media accounts.

Throughout its existence, "90 Segundos de Ciência" has won several important awards, such as the Gulbenkian Knowledge Award in 2019 and the Acesso Cultura Award in 2018. Last year, it was a finalist for the Podes Awards, which highlight the best national podcasts, in the Radio category.
