FCT - Aga-Khan Development Network

Considering the growing diplomatic relationship between the Portuguese Republic and Immat Ismaili and the common goals regarding the encouragement and strengthening of scientific skills and capabilities in a sustained international cooperation framework, the Cooperation Protocol between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education of the Portuguese Republic (MCTES) and Immat Ismaili, in Science and Technology, was signed in May 2016.

This partnership is part of the Knowledge for Development Initiative, promoted by the MCTES, which includes new actions to boost the "Global Science" agenda with Portuguese-speaking African countries, launched in 2009, and reinforced and stimulated through this cooperation as well as through other related actions, such as the recently created Ciência LP - International Center for Advanced Training in Fundamental Sciences for Scientists from Portuguese-Speaking Countries, a UNESCO Category 2 Center.

Through this protocol, it is intended to establish the launch of a joint initiative aimed at strengthening academic, scientific and technological cooperation with developing countries and regions, through scientific capacity building, oriented towards promising researchers with recognized experience, that addresses current topics of global importance, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration, and that ensures sufficient financial resources and duration to allow an effective impact in these countries and regions.

The actions foreseen in the protocol will be implemented by FCT, representing the MCTES, and by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), representing Imamat Ismaili.
