AgData is a co-funded European Partnership that aims to improve the performance of the agricultural sector and support policy monitoring and evaluation by unlocking the potential of data technologies to improve environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable agricultural production, combined with climate resilience and agricultural competitiveness.
This partnership involves 72 organizations from 21 countries. It includes national agencies that support research in science and technology and bodies responsible for agricultural sector development and data technology policies.
The specific objectives of the partnership are:
- Improve agri-environmental monitoring solutions and strengthen capacities to assess the state of agri-environmental and climatic conditions by enhancing the integration of datasets provided by various public and private sources, platforms/networks, and capitalizing on them through the application of data technologies;
- Boost the adoption of digital and data technologies in agriculture by providing data-driven, co-designed, customized, easily accessible, and end-user-oriented solutions based on Earth observation, environmental, and other data, actively supported by the implementation and dissemination of solutions at the European level by the partnership;
- Improve the use of Earth observation, environmental, and other data to develop data-driven solutions, methodologies, and indicators to enhance the adaptation and resilience of agriculture to climate change and minimize the undesirable impact of agriculture on climate, environmental quality, ecosystem services, and biodiversity, while ensuring food security, safety, quality, and sustainable productivity.
FCT, the Portuguese Space Agency (PT SPACE), the Institute for the Financing of Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP), and the Office for Planning, Policy, and General Administration (GPP) are the Portuguese organizations participating in this partnership.
This initiative has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program. Grant Agreement No. 101197332.
