EP Brain Health – European Partnership for Brain Health

EP BrainHealth is a European partnership co-funded under Horizon Europe and designed to structure and align the European research and innovation (R&I) ecosystem dedicated to brain health, covering neurological, mental, and sensory disorders, as well as neurodegenerative diseases.

EP BrainHealth aims to strengthen the position of the EU and associated countries as international leaders in brain health R&I by promoting data sharing and use (including FAIR principles) and infrastructure integration within the European Health Data Space, and aligning policies and funding from different actors (funding agencies, health authorities, researchers, innovation, and civil society) to accelerate the generation and translation of knowledge into solutions for brain health promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care.

This Partnership brings together 54 organizations from 33 countries. The partnership is expected to last for ten years (2026–2035).

EP Brain Health contributes to European public health priorities, including the “Healthier Together – EU Non-Communicable Diseases" initiative (2022–2027) focusing on mental health and neurological disorders, the Commission Communication on a comprehensive approach to mental health (COM(2023) 298), the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe, the EU4Health program, and the European Strategy for Care. Priorities include: fostering translational and collaborative research; creating critical mass and long-term strategic research agendas; promoting inclusion, ethics, and the involvement of patients and citizens; and reducing stigma and inequalities in access to diagnosis and care.

The FCT and theAgency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation are the Portuguese organizations that are part of EP Brain Health.

This initiative receives funding under the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program. Grant Agreement No. 101147319.
