The EU-LAC Platform is an information and communication space for funding agencies, universities, research centers, companies, and individuals interested in bi-regional cooperation between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean in the field of research and innovation.

This Platform also serves as a meeting point for the EU-LAC Interest Group, founded in March 2017 to maintain the highly active network created by the ERANet-LAC project funded by the European Commission (2013-2017), currently maintained by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). The EU-LAC Interest Group consists of 29 funding agencies from both regions that wish to cooperate in the field of bi-regional science, technology, and innovation (STI), including the FCT. The activities aim to support the implementation of the EU-LAC Common Research Area and add value to its basic pillars: researcher mobility, greater thematic cooperation to address global challenges, and international dissemination of research and innovation infrastructures. To date, the EU-LAC Interest Group has successfully organized six joint Calls , with FCT participating in two.
