The MarinERA network is a project funded by the ERA-Net mechanism of the EU FP6 (2004-2008). MarinERA is a partnership of 13 major funding agencies for R&D in Marine Science and Technology in Europe (coordinated by IFREMER and managed by the Marine Board -ESF). In addition, a variety of Observers (networks, funding agencies, ministries and other ERA-Nets) are associated with this project. The main objectives of the MarinERA project are:

To promote cooperation between R&D funding agencies in CTM in the European Union, through effective and efficient cost/benefit management of existing resources (human resources, specialized infrastructures and financial resources).

Contribute to the development of a European Marine Research Policy, identifying future challenges.

Promote a platform of understanding for the sharing of specialized resources for the study of priority issues not supportable by individual EU member countries.

Plan the joint opening of R&D Programs in Marine Sciences and Technologies.
