As a follow-up to the previous European initiative, HBM4EU - European Human Biomonitoring Initiative, PARC aims to boost the development of better chemical risk assessment by supporting the implementation of research and innovation in this area, with the aim of improving human health and the environment.
This co-funded partnership involves more than 200 partner institutions, involving ministries and national public health and risk assessment agencies, as well as research organizations and universities from 29 European countries. Agencies are also taking part: European Chemicals Agency, the European Environment Agency and the European Food Safety Authority.
The results of PARC will be used to develop new national and European strategies to reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals and their impact on health and the environment.
The Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge and the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa are the Portuguese organizations that have signed the partnership. The Portuguese Environment Agency, the Directorate-General for Health, the National School of Public Health at Universidade Nova, the University of Coimbra, the University of Aveiro, the University of Minho and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria are also affiliated organizations.
FCT is not directly involved in the partnership, but is a member of its Governance Board, as well as the National Hub on Human Biomonitoring, since it was set up under the HBM4EU project. In this role, it has collaborated in the co-organization of Human Biomonitoring workshops in Portugal.
This initiative has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation program, grant agreement No. 101057014.
