With the aim of continuing the previous European initiative, HBM4EU – European Human Biomonitoring Initiative, PARC intends to promote the development of better chemical risk assessment by supporting the implementation of research and innovation in this area, with the goal of improving human health and the environment.
This co-funded partnership involves more than 200 partner institutions, including ministries and national public health and risk assessment agencies, as well as research organizations and universities from 29 European countries. The following agencies are also participating: the European Chemicals Agency, the European Environment Agency, and the European Food Safety Authority.
The results of PARC will be used to develop new national and European strategies to reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals and their impact on health and the environment.
The National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon are the Portuguese organizations that have signed the partnership agreement. The Portuguese Environment Agency, the Directorate-General for Health, the National School of Public Health of the New University, the University of Coimbra, the University of Aveiro, the University of Minho, and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria are also part of the partnership as affiliated entities.
The FCT does not participate directly in the partnership, but is a member of its Governing Board, as well as of the National Hub for Human Biomonitoring, since its establishment within the scope of the HBM4EU project. In this role, it has collaborated in the co-organization of Human Biomonitoring workshops in Portugal.
This initiative has received funding from the European Union's Horizon EUROPA Research and Innovation Program, Grant Agreement No. 101057014.
