RCH – Resilient Cultural Heritage

The goal of the Resilient Cultural Heritage (RCH) Partnership is to strengthen the means of preserving Europe’s cultural heritage and to contribute to climate neutrality in other sectors by promoting traditional and innovative practices, techniques, and materials resulting from research in the field of cultural heritage.

The RCH addresses two major challenges: the lack of research and evidence regarding adaptation strategies and the impact of climate and environmental change on cultural heritage, and the need to deepen our understanding of how cultural heritage contributes to policy-making and the direction of related implementation measures, as well as to promote its use and recognition, including the role of traditional and local knowledge.

This co-funded partnership brings together 90 organizations from 30 countries, including national and regional authorities, funding agencies, universities, research institutes, and foundations.

The activities carried out under the RCH will follow the guidelines of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), the development of which began in 2023 as part of the ARCHE project. The Agenda is based on seven principles of research and innovation and includes three priority areas: Cultural Heritage and the Environment, Cultural Heritage and Society, and Cultural Heritage and Management. It also includes three cross-cutting themes: Communication, Education, and Public Engagement; Science, Technology, and Innovation; and the Interface between Science, Public Policy, and Society.

FCT, the Center for Intercultural Studies—representing the Porto Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration as a Partner—and Património Cultural, I.P., as an Observer, are the Portuguese organizations that make up the Resilient Cultural Heritage Partnership.
