The European Ocean Observation System (EOOS) aims to align and integrate Europe's ocean observation capacity, promote a systematic and collaborative approach to gathering information on the state and variability of our seas, and support the sustainable management of the marine environment and its resources.
One of its bodies, the Resource Forum, chaired by JPI Oceans, aims to help ensure the long-term sustainability of ocean observation in Europe. This forum includes national and European ocean observation funding bodies, whose members act as ocean observation funders and represent their organizations or initiatives.
The Resource Forum's main functions/responsibilities are:
- Involvement in the EOOS process;
- Advising on opportunities and risks and proposing long-term financing strategies for ocean observation;
- Alert for strategic funding opportunities relevant to EOOS;
- Supplement the EOOS implementation plan where relevant and practicable;
- Advising the other body, the EOOS Steering Group, on changes in the European and international funding landscape;
- Identifying priorities to share and advising on the added value of EOOS.
