The European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) aims to align and integrate Europe's ocean observation capacity, promote a systematic and collaborative approach to gathering information on the state and variability of our seas and support the sustainable management of the marine environment and its resources.
One of its bodies, the Resource Forum, chaired by JPI Oceans, aims to help the long-term sustainability of ocean observation in Europe. This forum includes national and European funders of ocean observation and its members act as funders of ocean observation and represent their organizations or initiatives.
The Resource Forum's main functions/responsibilities are:
- Involvement in the EOOS process;
- Advising on opportunities and risks and proposing long-term financing strategies for ocean observation;
- Alert to strategic funding opportunities relevant to EOOS;
- Complement the EOOS implementation plan where relevant and practicable;
- Advising the other body, the EOOS Steering Group, on changes in the funding landscape at European and international level;
- Identifying priorities to share and advising on the added value of EOOS.
