Portuguese researcher wins PRIMA Woman Greening Food Systems in the Mediterranean award

Marta Cortegano was one of the four winners of the PRIMA Woman Greening Food Systems Awardwith the project "BLOOM - Building Lives of Optimism and Opportunities for Women in the Semi-arid Through Regeneration". Marta and her team they energize a community process that has care as its central value: of the soil, of people and of the future, assuming the sustainability of the agri-food system as the matrix of the biophysical and socio-economic regeneration of the territory.
Co-founder of the Terra Sintrópica Association, she leads the change against desertification in the semi-arid region of Mértola in Portugal - one of the most depopulated regions in Europe, helping to restore the region while empowering local communities through innovative agroecological practices.
Portugal participates in the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Region (PRIMA), through the Foundation for Science and Technology.
