Maria Paula Diogo the new Member of the FCT Governing Board. Professor at the Department of Social and Applied Sciences at NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA, Maria Paula Diogo a member of CIUHCT-Interuniversity Center for the History of Science and Technology, which she coordinated for 15 years.

During her career, she has been awarded the two highest international distinctions granted to a historian of technology, both awarded for the first time to a Portuguese national, namely the Leonardo da Vinci Medal in2020 and theKranzberg Memorial Lecture.

In the field of research, her work focuses on the study of Portuguese engineering and engineers, especially between the mid-19th century and the first half of the 20th century, and, more recently, on the concepts of techno-scientific diplomacy and the Anthropocene. The new FCT member is also a member of research groups such as STEP (Science and Technology in the European Periphery), ToE –Tensions of Europe/Technology in the Making of 20th Century Europe, and INES (International Network on Engineering Studies), as well as other research networks and international societies.

Maria Paula Diogo also led several research projects on science, technology, and empires, the training of Portuguese engineers, and the construction of their national identity.
