18th Edition of the L'Oréal Portugal Women in Science Award

Applications for the 18th edition of the "L'Oréal Portugal Medals of Honor for Women in Science" Award opened today, June 1, and will run until 5pm (Lisbon time) on September 15, 2021. The Call, which is promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), L'Oréal Portugal and the National UNESCO Commission, has been held since 2003 and has already awarded more than 50 young female researchers in Portugal.

This Call aims to award four medals of honor, worth 15,000 euros (fifteen thousand euros) each, one Call being intended for all women who have obtained a doctoral degree less than five years prior to the opening date of Call, and who will not be over 35 years old by the end of this year. For applicants who have children, the age limit will be extended by one year for each child, depending on the number of children.

The award aims to support advanced scientific research studies, at post-doctoral level, in universities or other Portuguese institutions of recognized merit in the field of Sciences, Engineering and Technology for Health or for the Environment.

Remember that the winners of the 2020 Call were Joana Carvalho from the Champalimaud Foundation, Margarida Abrantes from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, Inês Fragata from the Center for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Change (cE3c) - Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, and Liliana Tomé from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, New University of Lisbon.
