18th edition of the L'Oréal Portugal Women in Science Award
Applications for the 18th edition of the "L'Oréal Portugal Medals of Honor for Women in Science" opened today, June 1, and run until 5pm (Lisbon time) on September 15, 2021. The Call, which is promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), L'Oréal Portugal and the UNESCO National Commission, has been running since 2003 and has already awarded more than 50 young female researchers in Portugal.
The aim of this Call is to award 4 medals of honor, worth €15,000 (fifteen thousand euros) each. The Call is aimed at all women who have obtained a doctorate less than five years before the date of the Call, and who will not be over 35 by the end of this year. For applicants with children, the age limit will be extended by 1 year for each child, depending on the number of children.
The prize aims to support advanced scientific research studies, at post-doctoral level, in Portuguese universities or other institutions of recognized merit in the field of Science, Engineering and Technology for Health or the Environment.
The winners of the 2020 Call were Joana Carvalho from the Champalimaud Foundation, Margarida Abrantes from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, Inês Fragata from the Center for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Change (cE3c) - Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and Liliana Tomé from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the New University of Lisbon.
