Three Portuguese teams among the winners of the #EUVSVIRUS HACKATHON
Three Portuguese teams stood out among the finalists of the #EUVSVIRUS HACKATHON, held from April 22 to 26, which featured 2,160 projects from 141 countries. The initiative was promoted by the European Commission in close collaboration with all EU member states and sought to involve civil society, the public sector, innovators, and investors in the development of innovative short-term solutions in the context of the challenges linked to COVID-19.
The winners are organized by an overall winner for each of the six main areas—health; business continuity; social and political cohesion; remote working and education; digital application to the financial world; and others—a winner for each of the 37 challenges proposed, and two runners-up for each challenge.
The Portuguese teams won with the following projects: ImpactMarket – Open CrowdFinance for Impact, in the area of digital applications for finance; Ed4You, in the area of remote working and education; and Scifunfamily: Virtual/Online Museum and Science Center tools for the whole family to support parents taking the main educational role, also in the area of remote working and education.
Next up is the #EUvsVirus Matchathon, which is the next phase and will take place from May 22 to 25, 2020. This time, the aim is to respond to the needs of each winning project, taking into account the resources available from each EU member state and other participating countries.
The winning projects will also be invited to join the EIC COVID Platform, which will be launched at the end of May. This platform aims to facilitate connections with end users, such as hospitals, and provide access to investors, foundations, and other funding opportunities across the EU.
