3rd edition of Call Forest Fire Research Projects
The FCT has opened applications for the 3rd edition of Call Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects in the field of Forest Fire Prevention and Control. Applications can be submitted until February 20, 2020.
This Call promote scientific research and innovation, strengthen scientific and technical skills, and generate new knowledge. In this edition, the following topics and areas will be considered priorities:
- Governance of forest resources, including fuel management in rural areas, integration and communication mechanisms for fire risk, as well as consideration of attitudes and behaviors;
- Valorization of biomass in rural areas as a factor in boosting the local economy and population participation;
- Models for the organization and management of forest areas in terms of protection, conservation, silvopastoralism, recreation, leisure, and production, integrating territorial, social, and economic components;
- Models for land use planning, preventive forestry, restoration, and post-fire management, at different temporal and spatial scales.
The Call a financial envelope of €5 million, with a maximum funding limit of €300,000 per project.
In the first two editions of Call, held in 2017 and 2018, 37 research projects in various scientific areas were funded, for a total amount of €10 million. The projects were presented at the meeting "Rural Fires: Better management based on scientific evidence," held on November 27, jointly organized by FCT, ForestWISE – Collaborative Laboratory for Integrated Forest and Fire Management, and the Agency for Integrated Management of Rural Fires (AGIF), and are compiled in a brochure produced by FCT.
