3rd Edition of NASA Internships

Applications are now open for the 3rd edition of Call for the allocation of Studentships Research Internships at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the USA). Up to six Studentships internships will be awarded, and applications can be submitted until January 21.

The program takes place under an agreement signed in 2016 between FCT, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES) and NASA, which allowed Portugal to integrate the International Internship Program of the US space agency. Students of Portuguese nationality who are studying for a doctorate or master's degree in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics may apply. The internship opportunities for this edition include 22 NASA projects, among which the candidates may indicate the one or those they wish to apply for.

In the first two editions of the internships, 12 students participated. One of these students, Milton Cordeiro - who participated in the first edition, in 2017, when he was finishing his PhD in Biotechnology at the New University of Lisbon - at the end of the internship received an invitation from NASA to continue his collaboration as a guest researcher at the agency. At the moment, he is continuing the development of a method for the production, in a space environment, of biosensors for astronauts' heart monitoring, started during the internship.
