Presentation of the “Minho Manifesto” to European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel
This Friday, June 18, at the University of Minho in Guimarães, the Minho Manifesto on high-performance computing for science and innovation (“Minho Manifesto on European HPC for Science and Innovation”) will be presented during the High-Level Round Table “High-Performance Computing for Science and Innovation – Bringing together the new five European HPC petascale systems," a meeting that will take place starting at 8:45 a.m. as part of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The event will be attended by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor; the Slovenian Minister of Education, Research, and Innovation, Simona Kustec; the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, Mariya Gabriel; Portuguese MEPs Maria Manuel Leitão Marques and Graça Carvalho, and various scientific and business leaders, together with those responsible for the five new high-performance computing (HPC) systems installed in Portugal, Slovenia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Luxembourg.
The Minho Manifesto on European HPC for Science and Innovation envisages the creation of a European collaborative network to promote research and innovation through high-performance computing.
This is an important milestone in the Portuguese Presidency of the EU, which will enable the development of an integrated European infrastructure that is fundamental to the digital and environmental transitions.
