Evaluation and Funding of Academic Clinical Centers 2022

Following the submission of applications for evaluation by the Clinical Academic Centers (CAC), which ended on April 11, the public presentation of the CAC will take place from May 23 to June 3. The presentation includes a discussion with the evaluation panel, in accordance with Article 15 of Regulation No. 735/2021, which establishes the terms of the external evaluation of academic clinical centers. Each public presentation session lasts 90 minutes.

The external evaluation of CACs is coordinated by FCT, which has delegated this evaluation to the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB) in conjunction with the Central Administration of the Health System, I.P. (ACSS), in close coordination with the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), and after consulting the National Council of Academic Clinical Centers (CNCAC).

Conducted by international experts, this external evaluation seeks to ensure the performance assessment, monitoring, and multi-year funding of CACs as integrated structures for clinical and translational care, teaching, and research, whose main objective is the advancement and application of knowledge and scientific evidence to improve the healthcare provided to the population.
