Call 4 COVID-19” received 128 applications

The Call 4 Covid-19 for the award of PhD Studentships , promoted by FCT in collaboration with the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB), received a total of 128 applications.

This Call, for which applications closed on May 14, was launched in response to the pandemic caused by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It is aimed at obtaining new knowledge that will enable the creation of skills to respond to this and future pandemics, resulting in effective prevention measures, better healthcare, and effective support for citizens.

By gender, candidates are divided into 65% women and 35% men.

Of the total number of applications, 87.5% correspond to Studentships Portugal and 12.5% to Studentships be developed in national and foreign host institutions, referred to as Studentships .

Foreign applicants represent 20% of all applications, coming from seven countries. The countries with the most Call applicants Call Brazil (15) and Italy (5).

This Call of a varied set of support measures, Calls other initiatives launched this year by FCT in the fight against Covid-19:RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 support; the Call AI 4 COVID-19 R&D projects: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration;Gender Research 4 Covid-19 support; the Science 4 COVID-19 portal, the increase in the capacity of RCTS – Science, Technology, and Society Network, which supports internet connections for the teaching and research community; o strengthening the capacity of services that provide distance learning and teleworking in the academic and scientific community (Colibri, NAU, Educast, Videocast); and the creation of a COVID-19 page on the FCT website, which brings together all the information that is being released, directly or indirectly related to this pandemic situation.

FCT Doctoral Studentships are competitively awarded grants to support advanced training in all areas of knowledge for the purpose of obtaining a doctoral degree. These Studentships doctoral students to devote themselves exclusively to their research, thereby contributing to the scientific and technological development of the country.
