Three new Academic Clinical Centers created
Today, the creation of three new Academic Clinical Centers (CAC) was approved, joining the nine already in existence, by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Minister of Health, Marta Temido. The new centers are: the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro Academic Clinical Center (Decree No. 126/2022), the Alentejo Academic Clinical Center (Decree No. 127/2022), and the Católica Luz Academic Clinical Center (Decree No. 128/2022).
The Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro Clinical Academic Center (CACTMAD) is a consortium between the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro Hospital Center, E. P. E., the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, and the Trás-os-Montes Health Center Group (ACES) — Alto Tâmega and Barroso, Douro I — Marão and Douro Norte, and Douro II — Douro Sul, represented by the Northern Regional Health Administration, I. P.
The Alentejo Clinical Academic Center (C-TRAIL) is a consortium between the University of Évora, the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, the Alentejo Regional Health Administration, I. P., the Espírito Santo Hospital of Évora, E. P. E., the Northern Alentejo Local Health Unit, E. P. E. (ULSNA), the Alentejo Coast Local Health Unit, E. P. E. (ULSLA), and the Lower Alentejo Local Health Unit, E. P. E. (ULSBA).
The Luz Catholic Academic Clinical Center is an association that aims to enhance the synergies that already exist between the Portuguese Catholic University, Luz Saúde, S.A., Hospital da Luz, S.A., GLSMED Learning Health, S.A., and the Union of Portuguese Charities.
CACs are integrated structures for healthcare, teaching, and clinical and translational research, bringing together healthcare providers, higher education institutions, and/or public or private research institutions. Their main objectives are to advance and apply knowledge and scientific evidence to improve health.
