ERC awards five Starting Grants to Portugal
Over the next five years, institutions and research centers in Aveiro, Coimbra, Porto, and Lisbon will host five of the scientists who were awarded Starting Grants by the European Research Council (ERC) in 2013. Four Portuguese and one Czech researcher will now join the 18 researchers already conducting research in Portugal who have been awarded this grant since 2007.
With the ERC's seal of excellence, the projects by Marta Moita, from the Champalimaud Foundation, Mara Guadalupe, from the University of Aveiro, Ana Cristina Santos, from the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra, Carla Fernandes, from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the New University of Lisbon, and Reto Gassman, from the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Porto, will each receive funding ranging from approximately €1.3 million to €1.4 million.
In addition to the five researchers working in Portuguese institutions, the project of a Portuguese researcher working abroad was also recognized: Nuno Raimundo, from the University of Goettingen, Germany.
