ERC awards five Starting Grants to Portugal
Institutions and research centers in Aveiro, Coimbra, Porto and Lisbon will host five of the scientists awarded Starting Grants by the European Research Council (ERC) in 2013 over the next five years. Four Portuguese and one Czech now join the 18 researchers carrying out research in Portugal who have already received this award since 2007.
With the ERC's stamp of excellence, the projects by Marta Moita, from the Champalimaud Foundation, Mara Guadalupe, from the University of Aveiro, Ana Cristina Santos, from the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, Carla Fernandes, from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon, and Reto Gassman, from the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of Porto, each received funding of between 1.3 and 1.4 million euros.
In addition to the five researchers working in Portuguese institutions, the project of a Portuguese researcher working abroad was also recognized: Nuno Raimundo, from the University of Goettingen in Germany.
