FCT: 20 Years Supporting Science and Technology in Portugal
2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the Foundation for Science and Technology and the 50th anniversary of the creation of its predecessor, JNICT. The celebrations will begin with Ciência 2017 – the main meeting of the scientific community in Portugal, which will take place from July 3 to 5 at the Lisbon Congress Center – and will continue until Ciência 2018.
Throughout this year, a series of events, initiatives, and materials will be released. At this initial stage, FCT is releasing some materials prepared for the occasion:
Commemorative logo for FCT's 20th anniversary and new FCT logo: Developed by designer Pedro Gonçalves. It is an adaptation of the FCT logo, in which the font and color used were intended to be maintained. The logo is for the exclusive use of FCT and will be used on all material produced for use during this year at events, Calls others. At the same time, the new FCT logo will begin to be implemented, developed according to the same principles, but with two advantages over the current one:
1 – greater legibility and adaptation to the digital environment: the FCT name is written in a larger font than previously used, making it easier to read when used in small formats. The vertical, square version also allows for more versatile use of the logo. On the other hand, the FCT gains greater weight, strengthening the FCT brand.
2 – greater stability: the new logo follows the logic of the FCT website domain, which identifies only the Foundation and not its governing body. Thus, the new logo can be used for longer, without needing to be changed if the name of the governing body is altered.
The new logo will soon be made available to the scientific community, and there will be a one-year transition period during which either the old or new logo may be used. The adaptation of materials to the new logo will be gradual, so that there is no waste of materials already produced.
Memory of Science: The Science and Technology Archive is developing an initiative to collect and preserve the memory of science in Portugal, as well as that of the FCT and JNICT. If you have any materials, testimonials, images, or any other records from that period, please contact the Archive. Help us preserve the memory of science in Portugal!
Time Tunnel: do you still remember previous versions of the FCT website? The Web Archive remembers them well! That is why the Time Tunnel project was developed, allowing you to travel back to the Foundation's old websites and relive some memorable moments. The website is available at http://former.fct.pt/tuneldotempo20anos/
We are counting on you to make this occasion what it should be: a celebration for all of us!
