2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the Foundation for Science and Technology and the 50th anniversary of the creation of its predecessor, JNICT. The celebrations will begin with the Science 2017 meeting - the main meeting of the scientific community in Portugal, which takes place from July 3 to 5 at the Lisbon Congress Center - and will run until Science 2018.
Throughout this year, a series of events, initiatives and materials will be held. At this first moment, the FCT releases some materials prepared for the occasion:
Logo Commemorating the 20 years of FCT and the new FCT logo: Developed by the designer Pedro Gonçalves. It is an adaptation of the FCT logo, in which the font and color used were kept. The logo is for exclusive use by FCT, and will be used in all the material produced for use during this year in events, Calls and others. In parallel, the new FCT logo will begin to be implemented, developed according to the same principles, but which will bring two advantages over the current one:
1 - greater legibility and adaptation to the digital environment: the FCT name is written in a larger body than previously used, making it easier to read when used in small formats. The vertical, square version also allows a more versatile use of the logo. On the other hand, the FCT gains more weight, strengthening the FCT brand.
2 - greater stability: the new logo follows the logic of the FCT website domain, in which only the Foundation is identified and not its umbrella. Thus, the new logo may be used for a longer period of time, without the need to be changed if the name of the organization under which it is used is changed.
The new logo will soon be available to the scientific community, and there will be a one-year transition period during which either the old or the new logo can be used. The adaptation of materials to the new logo will be gradual, so that there is no waste of materials already produced.
Memory of Science: The Science and Technology Archive is developing an initiative to collect and preserve the memory of Science in Portugal, as well as that of FCT and JNICT. If you have materials, statements, images or any other records from that period, please contact the Archive. Help us preserve the memory of Science in Portugal!
Time Tunnel: do you remember the previous versions of the FCT website? The Web Archive remembers, and well! For this reason, the Tunnel of Time project was developed, which allows you to travel to the Foundation's old sites and remember some of the most important moments. The site is available at http://former.fct.pt/tuneldotempo20anos/
We are counting on you to make this ephemeris what it should be: a celebration of us all!
