FCT opens applications for Gender Research 4 Covid-19 support

The FCT, in conjunction with the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality and with the support of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), has opened applications for special support for Gender Research for Covid 19. Applications will be accepted from May 15 until 5 p.m. (Lisbon time) on June 2, 2020.

This support aims to fund research projects and initiatives that enable the production and dissemination of knowledge about the impacts of Covid-19 on gender inequalities and violence against women and domestic violence. Considering the current scientific and technological capacity in Portugal, and that each moment of crisis also has different impacts in terms of gender inequality, there is a need to analyze this challenge and to present response and intervention tools.

Proposed projects must follow three lines of research and development (R&D):

Line 1 – Gender and the labor market during and after the Covid-19 crisis
Line 2 – Covid-19, daily life, stereotypes, and gender roles
Line 3 – Covid-19 and violence against women and domestic violence.

This line of financing has a budget allocation of €500,000, and there are two types of projects: rapid implementation projects, with a maximum of four months for development and maximum support per project of €20,000; and longitudinal analysis projects, with a maximum of 10 months for development and support per project of €40,000.

The support is intended for higher education institutions and their institutes, state laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, which may apply individually or in partnership. The proposed projects will be evaluated by a committee comprising experts appointed by the FCT and the CIG.

This funding for national research joins a series of support measures, Calls other initiatives launched this year by the FCT in the fight against COVID-19, specifically: the Call Studentships for Doctorates DOCTORATES 4 COVID-19;RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 support, the Call R&D projects AI 4 COVID-19: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration, the Science 4 COVID-19 portal, the increase in capacity of the RCTS – Science, Technology, and Society Network, which supports internet connections for the teaching and research community, the reinforcement of the capacity of services that ensure distance learning and teleworking in the academic and scientific community (Colibri, NAU, Educast, Videocast); and the creation of a COVID-19 page on the FCT website, which brings together all the information that is being issued, directly or indirectly related to this pandemic situation.
