FCT opens applications for Gender Research 4 Covid-19 support

The FCT, in conjunction with the Secretariat of State for Citizenship and Equality and with the support of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), has opened applications for special support for Gender Research for Covid 19 , with applications open from 15 May until 5 pm (Lisbon time) on 2 June 2020.

This support aims to finance research projects and initiatives that allow the production and dissemination of knowledge about the impacts of Covid-19 on gender inequalities and violence against women and domestic violence. Considering the current scientific and technological capacity in Portugal, and that each moment of crisis brings different impacts also in terms of gender inequality, the need arises to analyze this challenge and to present response and intervention instruments.

The proposed projects must follow three lines of Research and Development (R&D):

Line 1 – Gender and the labor market during and after the Covid-19 crisis
Line 2 – Covid-19, daily life, stereotypes and gender roles
Line 3 – Covid-19 and violence against women and domestic violence.

This line of financing has a budget allocation of 500 thousand euros, and there are two types of projects: rapid implementation projects, with a maximum of 4 months for development and a maximum support per project of 20 thousand euros; and longitudinal analysis projects, with a maximum of 10 months for development and support per project of R$40 thousand.

The support is intended for higher education institutions and their institutes, state laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, non-profit public or private institutions, which may compete individually or in partnership. The evaluation of the proposed projects will be carried out by a committee that will include experts to be appointed by the FCT and the CIG.

This funding for national research is added to a set of supports, Calls and other initiatives, launched this year by the FCT within the scope of the fight against Covid-19, more specifically: Call of Studentships doctoral research DOCTORATES 4 COVID-19 ; the support of RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 , the Call for R&D projects AI 4 COVID-19 : Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration, the Science 4 COVID-19 portal, the increase in the capacity of RCTS – Science, Technology and Society Network, which supports the internet connections of the teaching and research community, the strengthening of the capacity of services that ensure distance learning and teleworking in the academic and scientific community (Colibri, NAU, Educast, Videocast); and the creation of a COVID-19 page on the FCT website , which brings together all the information that is being issued, directly or indirectly related to this pandemic situation.
