FCT opens applications for Gender Research 4 Covid-19 support

FCT, in conjunction with the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality and the support of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), has opened the applications for the special Gender Research for Covid 19 support. Applications will be accepted from May 15 until 5pm (Lisbon time) on June 2, 2020.

This support aims to fund research projects and initiatives that allow the production and dissemination of knowledge about the impacts of Covid-19 on gender inequalities and violence against women and domestic violence. Considering the current scientific and technological capacity in Portugal, and that each moment of crisis brings diverse impacts also at the level of gender inequality, there is a need to analyze this challenge and present tools for response and intervention

The proposed projects must follow three Research and Development (R&D) lines:

Line 1 - Gender and the labor market during and in the post-covid-19 crisis period
Line 2 - Covid-19, everyday life, stereotypes and gender roles
Line 3 - Covid-19 and violence against women and domestic violence.

This line of funding has a budget allocation of 500 thousand Euros, and there are two types of projects: fast track projects, with a maximum of 4 months for development and a maximum support per project of 20 thousand Euros; and longitudinal analysis projects, with a maximum of 10 months for development and a support per project of 40 thousand Euros.

The support is intended for higher education institutions and their institutes, State Laboratories and other public research institutions, non-profit scientific societies or scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, which may apply individually or in partnership. The evaluation of the proposed projects will be done by a commission that will include experts to be appointed by FCT and the IGC.

This funding for national research is in addition to a set of support, Calls and other initiatives, launched this year by FCT within the scope of the fight against Covid-19, specifically: the Call of Studentships for doctoral research DOCTORATES 4 COVID-19; the support RESEARCH 4 COVID-19, the Call for R&D projects AI 4 COVID-19: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration, the Science 4 COVID-19 portal, the increase in capacity of the RCTS - Science, Technology and Society Network, which supports the Internet connections of the teaching and research community, the strengthening of the capacity of services that ensure distance learning and teleworking in the academic and scientific community (Colibri, NAU, Educast, Videocast); and the creation of a COVID-19 page on the FCT website, which gathers all the information that is being issued, directly or indirectly related to this pandemic situation.
